GRE (Graduate Record Examination) is a standardized exam conducted by Educational Testing Service (ETS). GRE test is globally accepted by universities for MS and MBA Applications. GRE scores are mandatory if you are applying for a masters or a doctorate program in the USA.
There are few universities in countries like Canada, Germany and France also which accept GRE scores.
This test is used for as a primary criteria for admissions to Graduate programs
This test is taken to highlight your strengths in a specific subject area, such as Biology, Math, or English.
GRE exam tests you on three different skills and they are verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning and analytical writing skills. The test is for 3 hours and 45 minutes.The exam is conducted mainly in computer based format and also paper based format. But paper based format is not commonly used. The fee for this test is about (INR 16,000 to 17,000).

Test-takers are required to show up at the test center at least 30 minutes prior to the start of the test.
You'll need to have a valid, acceptable ID document with you when you get to the test center, as it will be needed during the check-in process.
Please be sure to read the GRE information bulletin that is posted on the ETS GRE website so that you're fully aware of all of the policies and procedures, as well as the test etiquette.
When you arrive at the test center, make absolutely sure you have an acceptable and valid ID with your name and signature and photograph, and that the name on this ID matches the name that you used when you registered for the GRE test.
Please remember that you cannot bring your own calculator into the test center. Circled at the top of the screen there is the Calculator button, which will call up the on-screen calculator for you during the Quantitative Reasoning sections.
There are several breaks built into the GRE General Test. There is a 10-minute break after the third section and a 1-minute break between other sections. During these scheduled breaks, the clock will stop. And the clock will start up again as soon as the breaks are over.
You will receive official scores approximately within 10 to 15 days following your test date. Please note, you won't be able to see unofficial scores for the Analytical Writing section on test day and will be available only with the Official scores.
In GRE there is no negative marking.
It's good to have the names and the GRE four-digit code numbers of up to four schools or graduate programs where you would like to send scores.
At the end of your test session on test day, you will have two options. You can either report or cancel the test scores. If you choose to cancel your scores, they will be permanently deleted and never part of your GRE score history. You will not be able to see the scores for yourself, nor will you be able to send those scores out to institutions. If you choose to report, that means that you're choosing to keep those scores on file. And you will then be able to see your unofficial scores for the Verbal Reasoning and Quantitative Reasoning measures.
