PTE General – This exam is conducted for rewarding brilliant achievements in English language learning and is not used as an English proficiency test.
PTE Academic – This is the major exam that you can undertake if you are planning to work or study abroad.
The PTE Academic exam is accepted by a number of institutions in countries like the United States of America, the United Kingdom, New Zealand, Australia, and Canada among others. The PTE exam format is also the same for all institutions around the world, however, it’s better to check with the institution for preference.

As the name implies, this section tests the candidate’s based on their 2 major skills of communication, which are spoken and written skills. This section comprises six small sections that test you on your promptness over speaking and writing the written test that you would get to read for the first time. The complete section is given a time duration of 54 - 67 minutes and the time allotted to each segment is as follows:

PTE Listening Format: The listening section of the PTE Academic is stretched over 30 to 43 minutes of duration. This one is designed to determine the ability to understand spoken English by the candidate. Here, the student needs to ascertain that they carefully hear the audio file played and retain what they heard. This section is divided into 8 segments and the time given to each segment is as follows.

All items in PTE Academic are machine scored using PTE Academic’s automated scoring system. Scores for some item types are based on correctness alone, while others are based on correctness, formal aspects and the quality of the response. There are two types of scoring: correct or incorrect, and partial scoring.
If responses are correct, a score of 1 score point will be given, but if they are incorrect, no score points are awarded.
Other item types are scored as correct, partially correct or incorrect. If responses to these items are correct, the maximum score points available for each item type will be received, but if they are partly correct, some score points will be given, but less than the maximum available for the item type. If responses are incorrect, no score points will be received.
After the completion of your PTE Academic exam, you will receive PTE scores for each of the skill sections on a band range of 10 – 90. Along with that, you will also get an overall score. Candidates can attend the exam with the gap of 5 days and there is no limit for number of attempts.
PTE score of 51.6 overall is equivalent to IELTS score of 6 overall. But varies for each band.

PTE is not easier than IELTS. Both exams are of same level. Both exams test your reading, writing, listening and speaking skills.
Most of the universities accept PTE score above 61 and a very few universities lesser than that. It depends on the university and country.

If you are unable to attend the exam on scheduled date due to illness and family emergency, you can reschedule it once for free of cost. Candidate must fill the emergency reschedule form within 14 days of scheduled test date and should provide supporting evidence.
Cancellation of the exam can be done through the official PTE website. This should be done with less than 14 calendar days before their test date and the candidate will receive a partial refund of 50% of the test fee paid.
Many number of test takers miss out their points in PTE reading. So among the three PTE reading is most complicated.

Speaking and writing (54 – 67 min)
Reading (29 – 30 min)
Listening (30 – 43 min)
Candidate can check their score by assessing the online account created during the PTE registration. Candidates will also receive an email notifying the availability of their results on their registered id.
Yes candidates get negative marks for wrong answers in PTE test items.
There are three sections were candidates get negative marks, they are multiple choice, choose multiple answers in the reading module, choose multiple answers in the listening module.

Student should have a minimum PTE score as 42 for Australia.
The minimum number of questions a candidate could get in PTE is 106, and maximum is 136.
The main difference between IELTS and PTE is IELTS offer a choice between a paper – based exam or a computer delivered exam. But the PTE test is all computer based exam.
In PTE results are received faster that is within a couple of days to up to a week.
Candidates should fill out the form given in the PTE website and the customer service team will investigate further.
